The Create Foundation - founded in memory of the late theatre personality, Pearl Padamsee - is now in its 13th year. It stands for Children's Research in Education Arts and Theatre Endowment and has been instrumental in organising competitions in art-related activities for children across mainstream city schools.

This year, the foundation will be hosting the 10th Annual Inter-School Elocution Competition. The winner will be awarded The Pearl Padamsee Trophy for Excellence in Speech and Drama.

Every year a theme is decided around which the participants create their piece. The theme for this year is inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's quote, ''Be the change you want to see in the world''. The theme is also in tandem with Ace Productions' musical piece titled Mahatma.

When asked Raell Padamsee, founder of Ace Productions about her expectations from the event, she says. ''Right now we're in the middle of auditions and we have been completely blown away by some of the talent we're seeing, from children as young as 7 years. Based on the auditions, I have to say that expectations are extremely high. The judges will be impressed.'' She also adds that the best part about working with children, as opposed to adults is that they are open to instruction and are eager to learn new things.

But this is not merely an elocution contest. The participants are encouraged to incorporate costumes, props and act out the piece.

Eminent theatre personalities such as Alyque Padamsee, Sabira Merchant and Meher Acharia will be judging the event. Actress Juhi Chawla is also expected to be at the event.

For the Create Trophy for Artistic Excellence amongst children from NGOs, the judges are Perizad Zorabian, Samir Soni and Suchitra Pillai.

Eliminations are currently being organised at city schools, and the finals will take place on December 18 (Create Trophy for Artistic Excellence) and on December 19 (Pearl Padamsee Trophy for Excellence in Speech and Drama), at 5pm at Y.B. Chavan Auditorium.
