The Akkad-Bakkad Slum Theatre Festival 2025 is a one-of-a-kind initiative dedicated to empowering slum children through theatre. Scheduled to begin in April 2025, this transformative festival will introduce over 200 children from 10 to 11 slum areas in Nagpur to the world of theatre and allied arts.

Through a 20-day production-oriented theatre workshop, these young participants will get the opportunity to explore storytelling, express their emotions, and bring their own experiences to the stage. The programme aims to ignite creativity, build confidence, and inspire change by allowing children to share the stories of their lives and communities. The festival will culminate in live performances, where these budding artists will showcase their talents and newfound skills.

Behind this powerful initiative is Meraki Performing Arts, a nonprofit theatre group that has been dedicated to performing arts for over a decade. Having participated in numerous State, National, and International theatre competitions and festivals, Meraki's mission is to use theatre as a tool for social impact and artistic growth.

The Akkad-Bakkad Festival is more than just a theatre event "it is a movement that gives a voice to children who often go unheard. By participating in theatre, these children gain a sense of belonging, purpose, and creative expression that can positively shape their futures.

Event Location: Meraki Theatre, Nagpur
