BEFORE/AFTERWARDSPROPOSTITIONS: ON TEXT AND SPACE II is based on texts from Roland Schimmelpfennig's play "Before/Afterwards." Schimmelpfennig's fragmented stories indicate how personal and internal histories and experiences reflect a changing world that is constant invention, constant failure, constant effort, constant flux. The text reflects people and their engagement with space. It creates a relationship between the private unconscious emotional life of human beings and physical landscapes. The installation maps these spaces that are suspended between the real and the imagined. It eliminates the presence of the performer in performance and investigates the nature of narrative in text, space and light.

Zuleikha Chaudari's work as a (theatre) director is essentially an investigation of the nature of performance. It explores how images are constructed and experienced: what is the relationship of the text and performer, what is the dynamic between performer and space, how are narratives created and understood, and finally, what is the role of the spectator in the performative experience. Side by side, it is also an exploration of space and the part space plays in the construction and experience of narratives - whether it is the space of the human body or the space of the place within which the performance takes place.

Zuleikha's light installations have, so far, been created as environments in which it is possible to view the performer from multiple perspectives - as a sculptural element in space and/or as a site for emotive expression, with the dynamic between the performer and spectator constantly changing depending on the varying spatial relationships as does the experience and narrative of the performance.

Zuleikha Chaudhari studied at the Motley Theatre Design School in London. She did her graduation and has a major in Theatre Directing and Light Design from Bennington College Vermont, USA. She has won many prestigious awards such as Sangeet Natak Academy (National Award) YUVA PURUSKAR, 2007, Charles Wallace India Trust Award, 2001/2002, The Rotary Club Youth Excellence Award for Theatre, 1999. Zuleikha is visiting Faculty (Scene Work), at The Dramatic Art and Design Academy, New Delhi and National School of Drama, New Delhi. She is part of the KHOJ International Artists Association - Advisory Artists Group since 2007. In 2009 she was invited as jury member at the ZURCHER THEATER SPEKTAKEL.
