Odia actor, movie director, and producer, Chittaranjan Tripathy has been appointed as the new director of the National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi.

Tripathy is the first person from Odisha to hold this post. He is a former NSD alum, having graduated in 1996, along with now popular star Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The post had been lying vacant for about five years, causing some unrest among students.

Tripathy is reported as having said in odishatv.in, "The challenge for me will be to polish and carry forward the legacy of our great 'Gurus' in the institution. I will try to incorporate new training methods for the new students in the field of acting."
