IFA Comes To Mumbai...A Two-Day Gala Festival of the Performing and the Visual Arts...
March 27, 2012 12:00:00 AM IST MTG editorial
The India Foundation for the Arts (IFA), an independent, philanthropic organization that supports arts and culture projects across the country, is coming to Mumbai. For nearly two decades, the Bangalore-based not-for-profit organization has been supporting artists across genres to produce innovative work. This apart, IFA has brought to audiences some well-known plays and performances produced by acclaimed artists including Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Lillete Dubey and others.
IFA is bringing this passion for the arts to Mumbai now. Starting with a two-day extravaganza at Prithvi Theatre, IFA, in the coming months, will showcase to the Mumbai art connoisseurs the best of its grantee projects, in association with local partners. The IFA festival at Prithvi will treat Mumbaikars to films, music, plays, photographs and much food for thought by way of discussions and seminars.
Anmol Vellani, Executive Director of IFA says, "Mumbai is important to IFA for two reasons. Firstly it is a growing hub for the contemporary arts as it is the base of many of the most innovative artists working in the visual arts - including installation and new media work - cinema, and exciting new voices in poetry and fiction. IFA naturally wants to make the range of the support it offers in the arts better known in the city. It is also true that in recent years Mumbai has experienced a rapid growth in the number of forums and institutions for the arts, which is unrivalled by other cities. Secondly, Mumbai is also home to a large, well-informed and sensitive art-loving public - a public among which IFA would like to build greater awareness of its work. In the end, IFA can prosper only if it significantly expands its network of individual well-wishers, ambassadors and supporters, and we feel that in Mumbai we will find many more people who will welcome and sympathize with our vision and mandate for philanthropy in the arts."
