Carmina Burana, a scenic cantata by Carl Orff was performed to great acclaim at its debut performance in 1937, Frankfurt. Orff soon became one of the most noted German composers of his generation developing an interest in the study of early music. He also opened a school in Munich with dancer Mary Wigman featuring a 'regeneration of music' from movement and dance
