The Royal Opera House was full of former students, admirers and theatre lovers, when Amal Allana's biography of her father, Ebrahim Alkazi, was released by playwright Mahesh Elkunchwar.
Alkazi, known as the Father of modern Indian theatre, was a giant striding India's cultural landscape with fierce commitment.
He shaped Mumbai's contemporary theatre before taking on the momentous task of setting up the National School of Drama in New Delhi.
After an eloquent introduction by Asad Lallji, curator at ROH, Sonam Kalra and Rehaan Engineer read excerpts from the book, Ebrahim Alkazi: Holding Time Captive, while Amal Allana had a discussion with Ranjiit Hoskote about her process of writing the book and shared her memories of her father.
Theatre stalwarts like Sai Paranjpye, Lillete Dubey, KK Raina, Ila Arun, Atul Tiwari, Preeta Mathur, Joy Sengupta, Jayati Bhatia and many others attended the event.
