Paresh Rawal, film and stage star, has been appointed Chairman of the National School of Drama, New Delhi. Rawal who started his acting career in theatre, continued to do plays like KISHAN VS KANHAIYA and DEAR FATHER alongside a successful film career.
The announcement was made by Minister of Culture Prahlad Singh Patel, who tweeted, "Renowned artiste Paresh Rawal has been appointed as Chairman of National School of Drama by Rashtrapati Bhavan. I am glad that students and artistes will be able to take advantage of his talent. I congratulate him."
The official Twitter handle of the drama institution posted, "NSD family welcome the legend to shower his guidance to NSD for achieving new heights."
Rawal, who is not a trained actor himself, but excelled in his work, is quoted as saying, "It will be challenging but fun. I will do my best because this is a field I know very well."
The post had been vacant since 2017, and Rawal steps in when a fresh approach is needed for the institution to grow.
