Mahesh Dattani who is regarded as one of the foremost, contemporary playwrights of Indian English theatre rose to fame with DANCE LIKE A MAN. The Primetime Theatre Co. helmed by Lillete Dubey ensured the play's success story on stage. It has also been one of the theatre company's enduring productions. A talented cast and good production values continue to draw audiences for this thoughtful play that questions our accepted notions of both gender and patriarchy.

It is scheduled for its 600th show this weekend.

Playwright Mahesh Dattani says: I celebrated my 60th birthday this month, and Primetime is performing its 600th show this very month. The play has so many memories for me. My dance gurus' blessings when they saw it in the late eighties, the beginning of my friendship and artistic relationship with Lillete, trips to foreign lands, the cast and the crew. It's like a true marriage and raising a family. I feel truly blessed!"

Director-actor Lillete Dubey reflects "With DANCE LIKE A MAN that opened in 1995, original Indian English Theatre finally found its voice and our theatre company's two dreams - that of having a platform for original Indian writing and travelling with such original work around the globe, were realised in one stroke. It's been an enormous success and can hold its own anywhere simply for its powerful and relevant dramatic content. It's a landmark Indian play that has inspired scores of young writers to tell their stories."
