How does a play about death captivate audiences for over four decades? Why does the playwright choose humour and irony to depict such a grim subject? Can a play like this really develop a life of its own?
Satish Alekar - theatre personality, actor and playwright will preside at this 'Mumbai Local' event where he will share the fascinating life of his famous play, MAHANIRVAN.
Satish Alekar will share enthralling, little-known stories from the play's journey on stage. He talks about the idea behind the piece and how it was conceived - explaining why he chose the Marathi musical form of keertan to capture the theme of death. He shows us how he adapted the traditional mode to convey a message that is relevant to modern times. And he gives us a glimpse into what has kept MAHANIRVAN alive for forty years in theatre.
