MTG editorial
The last time theatre personality, Nadira Zaheer Babbar acted in one of Ekjute's productions was seven years back, when she played the Title role in the acclaimed BEGUM JAAN. Though she continued to act in the play and her other production SANDHYA CHHAYA, she never cast herself in any other new play. During these years she preferred to be behind the scenes; directing, writing and creating a platform in Ekjute for young actors through the medium of workshops.
SACHJUTANAMAK is based on three short stories by the late Urdu writer Razia Sajjad Zaheer (1912-1979). Nadira Zaheer Babbar was prompted to act once again because the three short stories are written by her mother, Razia Zaheer, whom she reveres as a writer. The veteran actress who plays the character of Safiya in the production says: "My mother's writing reflected the plight of the down trodden and questioned the existing dogmas in society. The issues she wrote about are very relevant in today's times also. Understandably, there was no way I was going to miss out acting in her creations. Safiya, the character I play in the short story 'Namak' is very close to my heart because it is based on a personal experience from my mother's life."
The production has been directed by Hanif Patni, a committed and respected member of Ekjute.
