Come on, discover the freedom and power of your voice and transform the way you communicate.
Fitzmaurice Voicework and Vāchikā are holistic practices that deal with the whole human voice to help develop vibrant and expressive voices that are authentic and compelling. This workshop is a practical exploration into the relationship between body, breath, imagination, emotion, voice, language and well being.
Early bird discount: INR 48000/- (register before 20th November 2024 - 11:59pm)
About the Workshop
Participants will explore the fundamental techniques of Fitzmaurice Voicework
Destructuring
to widen range of breathing and voice for fuller self-expression, and
Restructuring
to practice the most physiologically efficient way to breathe for communication and performance. We will also work with text, speech-work, and song. You will finish the experience with a practice for enhancing the somatic-vocal relationship that integrates breath, body, voice and imagination.
Fitzmaurice Voicework is taught at Yale School of Drama, Harvard University/American Repertory Theatre's Institute for Advanced Theatre Training, New York University's Graduate Acting Program, the University of California-Irvine, and hundreds of other institutions around the world. There are approximately 300 certified Fitzmaurice teachers across six continents. Mallika Prasad heads South Asia for the institute in LA and is the only certified teacher in the region who is actively teaching the work for the last 5 years.
With over two decades of experience as a director/performer/educator/actor trainer, Mallika initially developed Vāchikā as a battery of exercises adapted from Yoga, Pranayama, Butoh and Kalaripayattu to support actors to use their voice in a healthy manner. Vāchikā now has wider application in wellbeing, and is accessible to anyone interested in the human voice. These are practical exercises to help strengthen the voice, increase resonance, reduce vocal fatigue, maintain vocal health, and address fundamental issues related to articulation.
You will learn to:
Organically engage body-breath-imagination to speak or sing with a deeper sense of connection and authenticity
Identify habitual body tensions that compromise posture and breathing
Expand your breath, resonance and range
Address issues of vocal health, repair and maintenance for sustainable, long-term voice use
Take quick, easy steps towards nervous system regulation
The workshop will be taught by Mallika who teaches voice on a very deep level. She brings her talent, experience and expertise to the work. Her work spans private and academic teaching, across film, television and theatre, as a performer, writer and director. Mallika will guide you through this life-affirming work towards communicating with presence power and a sense of play!
