The workshop is designed to help the performer find their own triggers and mechanisms to be able to access these primary emotions (Navarasas) and eventually play with them. Although, the methods employed in the workshop will have no direct elements from any performance form We will work with certain physical actions that are derived from the Navarasas practice in Kutiyattam along with many other acquired techniques and nuances.

The workshop will work towards helping each participant arrive at their own physical score with a possibility to shift/change it with time and practice. An actors instrument needs to constantly be in transition and not static.

Performers with some prior performing experience and are prepared for an intensive dive (40 working hours) into emotions will stand to benefit most from it. The entry point for working with the emotions will be psychological association from the participants life; the design of the workshop is to progressively remove the dependence on associations and move towards eliciting the levels of emotions through honing of the technique.

The vision of this Level 1 workshop is to facilitate a process for modern actors to explore the Navarasas without having to decontextualise from their experiences or embracing a traditional/classical form. The scope of learning nuances of Navarasas is further expanded on and explored during the Level 2 Navarasa workshop. Level 2 workshop further chisels participants ability to access stillness in a manner that the nuance for each rasa can be deeply delved into while simultaneously refining earlier techniques.

Max no of participants : 9
