A play that changed your perception about the theatre…. CHITRAGANDHA by Rabindranath Tagore, a story turned into a play by my first guru, NSD alumni, Mr. Shirish Dobhal. We opened it at Gaiety Theatre and President’s House, Shimla. I played a woman who used to fight wars but asks for a vardaan to turn feminine to win over Arjun.
How do you regard the Mumbai/Indian theatre scene? We are there but i think it was much better a decade ago.
Have you read any interesting books/articles concerning the theatre? Why did you find them interesting? I read Respect For Acting. It was a refreshing experience to learn about the same craft from another legendary actor from a different part of the world.
Can you recall an event that was insightful, significant or simply humorous during your theatre journey? I once recall performing a play at Nasik where there was a new replacement for a character. That character almost fell on stage and the entire cast spent the rest of the scene trying not to laugh. Thank God for a comedy line after a few mins where everyone let out their laugh as if they were too much in the scene.
Can you think of a foreign production that you found remarkable? Why? I haven’t experienced a foreign production on stage yet.
Your favourite director/actor/music or set designer… Om sir, Gagan Dev Riar, Harshal Singh.

Life in the theatre without the humble batata-wada or the cutting chai… or can you recall the best gastronomic experience you’ve had in the precincts of the theatre to date? I was not allowed to have chai all my life. When i joined Yatri, I refused to have chai on the first day. Om sir saw that and told me- “give it time” and cut to, now I’m a chai addict. "
