If you have ever been a part of a theatre production/s, can you recall an event that was insightful, significant or simply humorous?.....
I was doing KAIFI KI YAAD MEIN at Prithvi and was assigned the duty of being with Shaukat Kaifi. This seniormost actress had to make an entry after 20 minutes but she was standing in the wings like any other new comer / actor and was experiencing butterflies as is always the case with us performers. She was meditating ,not talkingthere was no disturbing her,she was getting so upset when people were coming to talk to her. I was amazed to see a doyen of theatre still getting the jitters at her age. What discipline. what junoon!
I also remember that during one of the performances of my play MERA KUCH SAMAN I had a lot of costume changes and for one of them I completely forgot my next entry. By the time I remembered I was halfway through changing my saree. But I just about managed to tuck in a bit and carried the rest in my hand. I put on the rest of the saree on the stage as though nothing was wrong . Dont know what the audience thought because the play was about an extra marital affair (hahaha) but I learnt a lesson- dont take costume changes for granted.
Can you think of a foreign production that you found remarkable? Why?
CHICAGO. I saw it while I was in New York. Sleek, flawless. Wonder how they can do it so well everytime.

Life in the theatre without the humble batata-wada or the cutting chai or if you please brownies that are snuggling chocolate bits or can you recall the best gastronomic experience youve had in the precincts of the theatre to date? .
Of course the last minute binging spree that I indulge in before every show (hahaha). We have a series of food festivals every time we go out with Farooque Sheikh abroad; the trip revolves around the eating joints of that particular city. I have always loved the chats and discussions we have had with Javed Akhtar regarding our plays over the Prithvi samosas and kheema pao. And yes, since I have started having my tea without sugar, no cutting chai for me anymore. I do miss it however.
