Which is the last play you liked and why? SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO by Jeff Goldberg. Couldn’t recommend it more.
Your favourite Adda to see a play... NCPA!
Your favourite playwright... William Shakespeare
Your favourite play-character... Lady Macbeth!
A play you would like to see filmed. Why? Should I stay or should I go. Something about capturing a 20 somethings woman life in literal chaos is so relatable, I would love for my fellow Gen-z all over the world to access the message and feel a little less alone in their problems.
A novel/short story you would like to see on stage? Why? IT HAD TO BE MURDER - was a novel written by Cornell Woolrich that actually inspired Alfred Hitchcock’s REAR WINDOW. I would love to see REAR WINDOW the film adapted for stage.
The most hilarious play you have seen... A Gujarati play, HAILA RAMILA PACHI AAVI. I saw it years ago at Bhaidas. It is a comedy about newlyweds, only to have the husbands dead ex-wife come back to haunt him, and ruin his plans for a romantic honeymoon.
A play, which is over-hyped... I try not to perceive art like that. It limits your mindset.
An important play (but ignored): All stories are important. They all exist because they capture a snapshot of a time, place or a human experience.
A play character you would like to "dialogue” with... I’d definitely want to take a trip to Verona, Italy and have a lil’ chat with both Romeo and Juliet!
A passage from an important play that you can recite... There is a quote I often play over in my head. "She was a vixen when she went to school, and though she be but little, she is fierce.”- Helena, A midsummer night’s dream.
A classical play that you should have read... A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, Tennessee Williams.
A play that changed your perception about the theatre.... CHICAGO.
How do you regard the Mumbai/Indian theatre scene? Crucial to the live events space. Witnessing storytelling in its purest form is a joy. The stories we are starting to hear and see on the scene are fresh, they are innovative and most importantly, they have something to say.
Can you recall an event that was insightful, significant or simply humorous during your theatre journey? Insight - Taking on the rollercoaster that is a one-woman-show. We would be here all day if I told you how earnestly I have had to let my walls down and come out of it trusting my swing. Significant moment - Multiple nights, during performances just realizing that happiness, excitement, sadness, anger, hatred, all trickle down from one emotion only. Love. Humorous- My friends and family tend to miss me - Call and text me the MOST when I am up on stage performing!!! (with my phone set to loud since it is a live prop).
Can you think of a foreign production that you found remarkable? Why? Wicked on Broadway!
Your favourite director/actor/music or set designer... Alfred Hitchcock
Life in the theatre without the humble batata-wada or the cutting chai... or can you recall the best gastronomic experience you’ve had in the precincts of the theatre to date? It has GOT to be the mini batata wada’s at NCPA. Yummm!
