Which is the last best play you saw and why?

S*X, M*RALITY AND CENS*RSHIP and THE BLUE MUG. Simple stories told in interesting ways.

Your favourite adda to see a play...

Prithvi Theatre

Your favourite playwright...

Siddharth Kumar is a young and very talented playwright

The most hilarious play you have ever seen...

Rage Productions GOING SOLO

A play you would like to see filmed. Why?

I think its a dream that is going to be realised soon. BADE MIYAN DEEWANE by Rangbaaz Group.

A play, which is over-hyped...

There is no such play. It is difficult to create a hype about a play. So if a play is over hyped...good for it!

An important play (but ignored)

I think there are many experimental Marathi plays that are not given their due in Mumbai.

A passage from an important play that you can recite...

There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, then are dreamt of in your philosophy- Shakespeares HAMLET.

A play that changed your perception about theatre...

Naseeruddin Shahs theatre group, Motley, allows one to strike a balance between doing theatre and earning a living by shooting for television or film.

How do you regard the Mumbai theatre scene?

Its better than any other city in India. I only wish we had more venues to perform at.

Can you think of a foreign production that you found remarkable? Why?

I had seen a production at the National School of Dramas (NSD) festival. It was a production of ROMEO AND JULIET from China. It was amazing the things that the company had done with the production. A known tale re-told well, is always a delight to watch.

Your favourite director/actor/music or set designer

I really enjoyed working with Kunaal Roy Kapur, Neeraj Kabi, and Naseerudin Shah as directors. Some of the actors that I have liked watching on stage are Neel Bhoopalam, Puja Sarup, Amey Wagh. Music directors include Gopal Tiwari, Swanand Kirkire, Megha Sriram, Pawan Uttam. As for set designers, I have liked the work of Dhanendra Kawde and Sunil Pandit.

Have you read any interesting books/articles concerning the theatre?

I recently read an article about the Broadway production of THE WAR HORSE.

It was interesting to learn of how the team had created the horse on stage and how it was operated. It looked so real that the actors could actually ride it, and the puppeteer would move it in a way that it could even appear that it was galloping. Incredible!

If you have ever been a part of a theatre production/s, can you recall an event that was insightful, significant or simply humorous?

Recently, Rangbaaz Group opened a new play called PAPA. We had a show in Pune. I play the guitar at the end of the play and all the actors sing. The song ends and the lights go off, and soon after, we are to resume singing and make the curtain call. I had been sitting on a chair which was placed in the centre. After the lights go out, I go to sit on the chair again, and fall down. The chair had been removed by an actor, as he thought it was no longer required. The team had a great laugh at my expense.
