A Yatra is a journey. Every year devotees of Lord Vitthala embark upon a journey on foot towards his temple in Pandharpur, which is commonly known as the Vaari / Yatra.

The story begins with little Kashi preparing to go on the Yatra with her parents. She is, however, completely oblivious to the twists and turns Lord Vitthala has placed in her path.

Along the way, she falls prey to child trafficking and ends up in a brothel in Pune`s Budhwar Peth. She is left with no alternative but to become a sex worker/prostitute. Even so, she never forgets what her original journey was supposed to be.

She meets new people, forges new connections and even falls in love with one of her clients but continues to have a feeling that she does not belong in the brothel.

This feeling lasts until one day, when Mausi, the brothel chief, suddenly dies and leaves behind an uncertain future for the women under her charge. Kashi then takes over from her, finally understanding and accepting the journey Lord Vitthala had planned for her. She vows to complete this Yatra.

This solo-act play is an attempt at experimental theatre. It questions the social tendencies of blaming the victim and portrays how patriarchy makes it impossible for a woman to truly be free.
