BHOOT KI AATMKATHA

BHOOT KI AATMKATHA

By MTG editorial

This devised play is based on three stories from the novel 'Impish Chronicles & Doggish Dabbler' namely 'Peak of Pappillion's', 'Mimic Parrot' and 'Doggish Dabbler'. A young child, KNY Patanjali aka Panku, who aspires to be a writer interacts with 'Ghost’ or ‘Bhoot' or ‘his past’ (as identified in colloquial language). Bhoot is too interested in the kid as he has written his autobiography. Starting with the first one ‘Peak of Pappilion’, is a group of united butterflies who are trapped in their own world, and struggle to prove their perception that they cannot evolve from Caterpillar. However, in their venture into the search for truth, they came across some challenges till they reached the drumstick tree, which revealed the truth that caterpillars, through the process of the life cycle, evolve into butterflies. The second story “The Mimic Parrot” takes us on a journey where ‘Popatlal’, a unique daydreamer, is unaccepted by his fellow parrots. He wishes the Van Devta (Forest God) to grant him the wish to possess the talent to mimic any animal he wants. With this unique talent, that marks them different from the rest of the jungle even so, he is not only boycotted by his fellow mates but also exploited by a female noble rich cat, hitherto, he is duped and killed by a hungry male cat signifying dissatisfaction as a vice. The third story throws light on a dog, Bobbili, the hunting Dog, owned by Fakir Raju, and possesses the art of talking like real human beings. Much to his unfortunate luck, he ends up being sold to ‘Suri’, who finally considers Raju righteous. Bobblili soon realizes that he is not supposed to blindly rise high in ego.
