Jashwant Thaker Memorial Foundation is happy to announce the performances of PATRA-MITRO, a remarkable play of love and pen-friendship that spans four decades.
A.R. Gurney's play LOVE LETTERS, upon which this Gujarati play is based, has already been performed across India in the English and Hindi (TUMHARI AMRITA) versions with considerable success.
PATRA-MITRO reinvents the play of passion, paintings, poetry, politics, and penmanship in a Gujarati context. It traces the lives and loves of Kalpana and Jawahar, both born in 1947. She is from a wealthy family, and he is from a middle-class family. The aspirations and disappointments of Gujaratis in independent India are portrayed in their comic and despairing attempts to find love, laughter, and hope in a world falling apart around them.
