Be transported to New York of the 1950s as the 2-time Tony Award winning Broadway musical brings the city’s most iconic locations to life in the coming-of-age drama.

Trouble is brewing on the Upper East Side. Members of the New York street gang the “Jets” patrol their dusty territory, defiantly snapping their fingers, always on the lookout for their rivals, the Puerto Rican “Sharks”. Fiery Latinas dance to sultry Mambo rhythms in the summer heat, dreaming of a better life. In the midst of it all: a great love fighting to overcome the obstacles and prejudices that stand in its way.

Get ready for the original classic of Broadway, West Side Story, brought to India for the very first time by the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre. Love story, coming-of-age drama, and an action thriller – ‘West Side Story’ uses the entire range of narrative devices, combining book, music, choreography and lyrics with great virtuosity to create a seamless masterpiece.

In a matter of seconds, the most diverse New York locations are brought to life. Alejo Vietti’s colourful costumes – based on original designs from the 1950s, including petticoats and circle skirts – complete the journey back in time.

This touring production – the only one to feature Jerome Robbins’ original choreography – has been delighting audiences all over the world since 2003. It has been seen by more than three million people in 30 countries across three continents.
