The play Hamid ka Chimta, evolves in the classroom where a teacher is questioning the children about the stories they know. Troubled by their disinterest in their own language, the teacher then tells them about Premchand’s Idgah, a story about a poor orphan, Hamid who lives with his grandmother. They decide to make a play on this story and name it Hamid ka Chimta. The story demonstrates how a dedicated teacher can instill interest in a language and encourage her pupils to discover their own culture and language.
