A captivating play directed and produced by Lillete Dubey - 'GAUHAR’ - honours the life of Gauhar Jaan, one of India's first mass media sensations. Her remarkable musical talent showcased in over 20 languages, with nearly 600 records in 1902, was the first Indian voice to be recorded. The play explores her life, dispelling myths and highlighting her independent spirit. Her iconic sign-off, "My name is Gauhar Jaan," symbolises a significant shift in Indian classical music. ‘GAUHAR’, penned by Mahesh Dattani and Vikram Sampath, receives the masterful direction of the mega-talented Lillete Dubey. The stellar cast includes Girija Oak, renowned for her roles in ‘Jawaan’ and ‘Taare Zameen Par’, alongside veteran Neena Kulkarni and Rajeev Siddhartha, a fixture on Mumbai's stage and OTT platforms like ‘Four More Shorts Please!’. Adding international flair is British-South Asian Actor Danny Sura, while Anuschka Sawhney, known for ‘Badlapur' and ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’, brings depth to the production. Aakanksha Kadre, skilled in Bharatnatyam, jazz, and salsa, enriches the ensemble, alongside versatile Anglo-Indian actor Denzil Smith and the multi-talented Varun Narayan.
