EQUUS is the latin word for ‘Horse’. It is an english psychological ‘whydunit’ drama written in 1973, based on a real incident. Equus revolves around the investigation of Alan’s upbringing, a 17-year-old boy, who in a night of ferocious passion ended up stabbing and blinding the eyes of 4 horses. The boy is being treated by Martin Dysart, a children’s psychiatrist, who is made to face his own demons during the process. He questions the concept of Normalcy, the need and extremity of Worship. With successive sessions, it is learnt that Alan had religious, emotional and sexual attraction for horses.
