Born in a classroom at St. Xavier's college, QTP is completely a product of the student theatre system of Bombay. Now 8 years on, the core group is still the same with a few additions. At present the group is run by Arghya Lahiri, Christopher Samuel, Himanshu Sitlani, Nadir Khan, Toral Shah and Quasar Thakore Padamsee with scores of volunteers and theatre enthusiasts floating in and out as and when their schedule allows. There are also members all over the world, arming themselves with theatre education to return and service the Indian theatre scene.
What began as a part time activity grew to a passion, then obsession and now profession. QTP is a full time theatre company that deals in the various aspects of theatre - producing plays, production management, workshops, curating festivals, promoting theatre, popularising theatre through an e-zine The Script, providing technical assistance and even conducting theatre activities for children who do not have access to creative outlets.
At present QTP is one of the busiest theatre units in the country with recent projects resulting in international tours to Italy, Australia and the United Kingdom. Three of QTP's plays are still running on the Bombay circuit - The President is Coming, Crab and Khatijabai of Karmali Terrace.
While theatre's dependence on sponsorships is a harsh reality for all groups, QTP also specializes in corporate events to subsidise their productions. Recent clients have included Hyatt Regency, Manhattan Credit Cards, Sandoz, Cadbury's and Tata Motors.
In 2008, along with running the three productions, members of the theatre company toured Australia, the United States and Canada with an international production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
