The Sangeet Natak Akademi (SNA) has awarded its Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar to some of the talented and well-known theatre makers and contemporary dancers working in their fields today.


Jehan Manekshaw of the Drama School Mumbai (DSM) has been awarded for his work in theatre direction. He says, "I was very surprised and touched that the members of the general council of the SNA gave me this award. I have been told informally it is in recognition for our work in advancing theatre pedagogy at the Drama School, Mumbai and in education through the Young People's Theatre Programme. While the award is in my name, I am thrilled that that the members of our countries highest artistic body have, through this award, given recognition to the hard work and commitment of many amazing theatre practitioners who have shared a common ideal of a creating a new standard of rigour, professionalism and commitment in theatre-craft."

Ashwath Bhatt has also received the award for Direction. He's the artistic director of Theatre Garage Project and has recently opened a new show FIRED BY HAMLET at British Council.

Purva Naresh has received the award in the field of playwriting. She has written various plays, among them, OK TATA BYE BYE.

Shaili Sathyu, who runs Gillo repertory, has been engaged with theatre for children and young people. She received the award in the category of Allied Theatre Arts for Lighting.

Anubha Fathepuria, who has been associated with Kolkata's theatre and dance company Padatik, received the award for Acting.

Vikram Iyengar of Ranan has been working in the field of contemporary dance in Kolkata and has received the award for the same.

The awardees received their award on 8th December 2015 in Agartala.
